PROFESSOR CHRISTIAN BELDI

Currently professor for piano-chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, he has also taught from 1996 to 2011 at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf. Many of his students are prizewinners of international piano and chamber music competitions, most of them having at present international solo careers and teaching positions in more than ten different countries.

Born 1958 in Bucharest, Romania, Beldi studied piano in his home-city as well as in Salzburg, Geneva and Hamburg, having as teachers Ludmila Levinson, Harry Datyner and the legendary pianist Carlo Zecchi. Further studies in chamber music with the members of the Amadeus Quartett and orchestral conducting with Sergiu Celibidache completed his musical education.

A major prizewinner of important international piano competitions (Maryland, Cologne, Terni, Valencia), he developed an international career both as soloist and chamber musician, being acclaimed as one of the most interesting musical personalities of the present. He appeared as a soloist with the Hamburger Symphoniker, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestra de la RAI Milano, Polish National Radio Orchestra and many other renowned orchestras; his concerto repertoire includes Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Grieg, Liszt, Saint-Saens, Franck, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Prokofiev and Bartok. His recitals were unanimously acclaimed by audiences in Paris, Brussels, Berlin, London, Milano, Washington, Seoul, Melbourne and at the festivals of Schleswig-Holstein, Spoleto, Tours and others. In 1985 he founded the Trio Lipatti with which he toured extensively the most important European music cities for many years.

CD recordings of Mozart Piano Concertos, Piano and Cello Sonatas by Mendelssohn, Prokofiev and Shostakovich as well as virtuoso romantic solo repertoire appeared under the labels BMG Arte Nova, Ambitus and Karussell (Polygram).

 

Christian Beldi ist Konzertpianist und Professor an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. Zur internationalen Anerkennung gelang er in den Achtziger Jahren als Preisträger internationaler Klavierwettbewerbe in Deutschland, Italien, Spanien und den USA.
Geboren in Rumänien, verließ er seine Heimat und studierte in Genf und Hamburg. Zur gleichen Zeit begann er auf den internationalen Bühnen zu konzertieren und spielte in Berlin, Hamburg, Genf, Mailand , Brüssel, London und vielen anderen Städten in Europa sowie in den USA, Kanada, Australien und im Fernen Osten.
Für seine Verdienste um die Musik wurde er mit dem Filipinetti Preis in Genf sowie mit dem Preis der Union Musical Espanola und mit dem Maurice Hinson Prize (USA) ausgezeichnet.
